“America’s Best Board Retreat Facilitator”
Hi, Tom Iselin, here . . . and welcome to First Things First
This is Day 10 of Boot Camp—A Leadership Guide to Building a Gold Standard Nonprofit.
On day 9, I talked about how you can keep the principle of authentic passion fresh in people’s minds. Today, I’m going to talk about how you can get board, staff, and volunteers to share their authentic passion in tangible ways.
All right, let’s get started. Once authentic passion takes hold in people’s hearts and minds, it becomes CONTAGIOUS. People become compelled to SHARE the deep sense of passion and commitment that validates their belief in your mission and the reasons they are involved.
As they do, it will inspire others to get involved! And soon THEIR authentic passion will blossom and they’ll want to share their experiences, which will inspire even more people to get involved—and so the authentic passion cycle goes.
To stoke the flame of authentic passion at your nonprofit, get staff, volunteers, and board members to share their testimonials, experiences, and information about your nonprofit. They can be in written and video format. Then you can use these clips in your collateral material, or post them on your website, blog, and social media sites. You can also share them at staff and board meetings, volunteer appreciation parties, fundraising galas, or during television interviews.
What’s most important, is to give people connected with your nonprofit channels to spread their authentic passion. Why? Because it will INSPIRE others to join your cause and become as passionate about fulfilling your mission as you are!
Well, that’s it for today. Tune in next week, when I’ll wrap up this series about authentic passion with summary of what we’ve covered.
Until then, remember to do what’s right for your nonprofit, not what’s convenient or easy! Whooya!
